Lou Si Fun in Taiping

I come from a very small town called Taiping, in Malaysia that’s a rather quiet, sleepy little place. When I went back on a recent trip, I wanted to go to my favourite coffee shop in the morning, Prima, but it was closed. So instead, my mom took me to my sisters’ favourite shop, called Restoran Kakak. I Googled it and found it was the #2 restaurant in TripAdvisor, so if you’re ever in Taiping you should check it out!

Here, you get delicious lou si fun noodles. The service is not great, it’s full of people who either ignore your or yell at you fiercely, but it’s an experience in itself. I think the reason why service isn’t great is because this restaurant has been doing really well all my life, and the proprietors don’t see a need to actually be charming. However, the noodles here are very delicious!

You can customize your order by adding things like meatballs, fishballs and tofu skin. But just bear in mind, you might really have to yell at them to get it and then they also don’t give you any hint that they’ve heard you, but then a bowl with the right order will magically appear in front of you.

It’s also nice to check out because it’s a really typical coffee shop in Taiping that has hardly changed since I was a child. The same people, the same design of the restaurant, and the same delicious food.
