Day Trip to Mount Takao

A couple of weeks back, I went for a hike at Mount Takao with my friends Anna, Cheryl and Jason. Cheryl and Jason were in town for a week, and I thought it would be great to go for a hike instead of doing the usual touristy things. Together with Anna, an insane hiker, we happily planned out our trip to Mount Takao.

My boyfriend came along too, but you’ll hardly see him in any of the pictures because he loped off speedily like a mountain deer, leaving us to eat his dust!

Mount Takao is approximately 50 minutes away from Shinjuku station, so it’s a really nice distance for a quick day trip.

At the foot of Mount Takao, there’s a street of little shops selling local specialties. I always love these cute little shops because you always find little inexpensive items to use in your daily life.

Tons of shops to check out the local delicacies.
I wish I could read Japanese so I could understand…

There were quite a lot of people hiking on that day, but it wasn’t too crowded.

This was pretty much my favourite part – walking through these tall trees while sunlight filtered through.
Nature, nature, nature.

Is there anything prettier than sunlight glinting off leaves?
I actually felt like I was Gretel walking through the forest.
It was a really bright day, but the forest was cool so it was a really comfortable hike.
Pretty Anna trying a pose!

Cheryl and Jason, smiling in the picture, but actually wanting to punch me for dragging them here.
Anna, being ridiculously fit, wasn’t even breaking out a sweat while the rest of us were huffing and puffing.
We had just a little more to go before reaching the top!
Oh wait, now even a little bit more.
Finally! The view from the top.

On the way down, we came across a little shrine.
Fortunes fluttering in the breeze.
The Mountain Deer, aka my boyfriend, in a chair lift ahead of us. We decided to go down the easy way instead of hiking down.
A wefie is the perfect thing to do while on a chair lift.

Would I go again? Definitely. If you’re in town, and want to head to Mount Takao, hit me up! It’s fun, good exercise and kind to your wallet. What more could you want?
